To put it simply, Google (and other search engines) are like giant libraries. Their job is to crawl and index all the websites on the internet and make them accessible to users who are looking for specific information.
In order to do that, Google uses a complex algorithm to determine which websites should be displayed on the first page of the search results. This algorithm takes into account a variety of factors, including the website’s content, structure, design and user experience.
In order to index all the websites on the internet, Google uses a process called crawling. Crawling is when Google sends out little spider bots (hence, crawling) to scour the internet and collect information about all the websites they can find.
Google sends these bots to a web page or web post to read the content on that page. Whether it’s a text, image, video, PDF or any other format, this content is discovered via links.
The bot follows every link on a website until it has visited each and every one of them. This process is what allows Google to index billions of pages every day and make them available to users within milliseconds.
To that end, a good first step to getting your SaaS website to appear on Google Search is to build a sound XML sitemap that will provide links to every page on your site, so that when you create a new page, you can easily create an internal link from a related existing page on your site and send a signal to Google bots that they should crawl it.
The next step is to sign up for a Google Search Console account. This free tool allows you to invite Google bots to crawl your newly developed page. You can do this by inspecting your new URL in the top search bar.
Then click “test live URL.”
When everything is good to go, finish by clicking “request indexing.”
